Today, marks the start of the 2016 Republican National Convention. A convention unlike no other. Where a complete outsider will become the Republican nominee for president. An outsider who is loved by few, and disliked by most. We have to question if he should even be here.
We've never seen a candidate like Trump. But there has never been an America more divided than there is now. People are tired. Tired of the status quo, tired of being told there is nothing they can do. People have lost their jobs, their losing their homes, and they are not getting ahead. When this happens, people get resentment. They want change, and that is why we've had two populist campaigns in this election. Both Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump attract the majority of people from the same group. Dissatisfied people who want change. The difference was who was to blame for their problems. Sanders supporters blamed wall street, and the corporate elite. They blamed the wealthiest, and the corrupt campaign finance system, that held the rigged economy in place. However, Trump supporters blamed outsiders, anyone who wasn't them. While the Sanders, progressive movement carries on with Jill Stein, the Trump movement is carrying on with Donald. It's going to cause consequences.
Quite simply, Trump is digging into people's fears, and the harsh reality these people face. These international trade agreements, that promised people jobs, did not provide that. It lead to companies moving their factories to other countries. Just take a moment to think about this. You are a factory worker, part of the manufacturing industry that produced good-paying middle class jobs, however you get laid off. Months later that company starts manufacturing in Mexico (for example). Who do you think you'd blame? It is very logical for these people to have hatred to these other countries that have taken their jobs away. This is the sole reason that I could ever be in support of Trump getting anywhere close to power. His willingness to renegotiate, and if need be leave, NAFTA, and other bad trade deals, gives us hope in other countries that it is a possibility to turn this ship around. The real people to blame for these bad ideas are the corporate elite that only care about profit and will do anything to make that extra dollar. However, Trump will continue to be harsh and negative towards the other countries. This is resulting in many people question the usefulness of these trade deals.
However, this alone can never justify a Donald Trump presidency. His policies are bogus, and he flip-flops more than any candidate previously. It is a real problem. Furthermore, he is dividing the republican party more than ever. We are seeing traditional Republican alliances break down over this nomination, and furthermore threaten the sustainability of the GOP. What must be noted, especially to the Republican establishment and leadership. Trump is the result of their actions. By allowing the Tea Party, the hard right-wing group, essentially almost take control of the party, and allowing them to have significant influence on policy, it was only a matter of time. Only a matter of time until those people had a candidate as crazy as them. They have been spewing this racial, discriminatory, rhetoric for years now. Stating uneducated views on the economy and taxes, and allowing people to lose out. All it took was an egotistical billionaire to take those ideas and run with them. The only people responsible for this trump nomination is the Republican party itself. That is going to cause chaos. The Republican party will more than likely come out of this election more divided than ever, and be in serious concern mode. That is why it is so important to make the right choice.
The time is now!
