Updated On July 26th to reflect nomination
Following a week of a Republican celebration, and partial unification, the Democrats now get their shot at making headlines. After a rather uneventful week, the Democrats have a real chance at coming out united, and as a unified party ready to tackle the Trump campaign. However that might not be enough. Clinton is vastly unpopular, with her numbers becoming worse. Nothing is being done to truly help this.
Hillary has chosen Tim Kaine as her running mate. Governor of Virginia for 2006-2011, Kaine also served as mayor of Richmond previously, and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012. There is no doubt that he has the political experience necessary to fill this role. Furthermore he fits very well in the Clinton campaign. Which means this was not the choice that would have grown the popularity of the ticket. He is a centrist, and will not appeal to the new powerful, populist, more progressive, side of the party. Now, I know the goal might be to attract the white, male, middle-class vote, however that is very much polling in Trumps favor. However he was in support of TPP, but as any good politician did a 180 to get ahead, and that will hurt with those people. Bad trade deals have hurt the white middle class the most, and those people very firmly stood in the Trump or Sanders campaigns. So this will not, in my opinion, work to that advantage. He may be able to win over some Hispanics, but even that is a stretch. To me, the only logical reason to pick Tim Kaine, is to have a completely boring next Vice President, because both of the candidates (from both the democrats and republicans) are honestly boring and just not going to help their main candidate. However, Clinton is probably gambling that it will not be a loss, and as a bonus she didn't need to make concessions to the progressive side.
Bernie Sanders problem... or Solution
Let's be honest. Sanders supporters are not following his lead and joining the Clinton campaign. Some are, but many are refusing to, because for them she represents everything that they fought against. For many, Clinton represents the exact reason that America is in this situation. We need bold new leadership, not the same type that got them into the mess. While we know the alternative is the grassroots campaign by Jill Stein, many are hoping for a slim possibility. Clinton has 2 205 pledged delegates, and a total of 2 383 are needed for the nomination. That means super-delegates are necessary to win the nomination. These people do not vote until the convention floor. Following troubling poll numbers, and the mayhem of the DNC email leak, it is very logical for them to instead vote to support Bernie Sanders. Time and time again, Bernie Sanders out polls Donald Trump by a much larger margin then Clinton. If the Democrats were serious about keeping the White House, and stopping the possibility of Trump presidency, they would instead line up behind Bernie Sanders. However the Democratic establishment would never do that. They refuse to allow a real progressive win, because the rigged system works for them, and they will stop at nothing to protect that.
Update: That is exactly what happened. Hillary Clinton has officially seized the Democratic nomination for President. But we must remember this, Bernie created a movement, and this is a movement that has now grown beyond that, and one that he no longer has control over. The people are making the choice. Sanders has endorsed Clinton, and has asked his supporters to vote for her in November, and that is all he can do. It will up to the democratic party, and Clinton herself to win over the Bernie vote. They will not come easy, however it is possible. But we must always remember that the movement does not die with this. It grows stronger. One day America will elect a democratic socialist as president. One day America will wake up and truly live in a country of the people, for the people, and by the people.
DNC is Corrupt!
We've known this for a while, but the corruption has came to a new level. Following the extensive email leak, it has been proven that many within the party worked actively against the Sanders campaign and helped the Clinton campaign. They've been saying this for the entire campaign, and now it is proven to be true. The system is rigged, and for further proof, once chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced that she would resign following the convention, it was announced that she would be even further being involved in the Clinton campaign. This is proof how corrupt it was from day one, and people are starting to notice. People are fed up with corrupt politics, and they change want that will actually do what is necessary for them.
All of this is extremely challenging for the party. As it attempts to unify going into one of the toughest general elections, it does not need these scandals. However it is going to get them regardless. The Democratic party needs to wake up and realize what is happening, and adapt quickly.
The choice is clear.
Choose wisely America.
